Accept donations quickly: Adding a Donate button to your site in minutes

If you need a quick way to accept donations on your website, we’ll walk through the process from start to finish.

Adding a Donate button to your website
If you already have a website, you can quickly add a button to accept donations or contributions. You only pay a low transaction fee when donors contribute to your organization. View fees.
If you’re registered as a 501(c)(3) public charity or similar organization, you may be eligible to confirm your PayPal Business account as a charity. Charity accounts benefit from paying reduced PayPal fees, including on payments made via the Donation button. 1
NOTE: If your website is hosted by an ecommerce platform – like BigCommerce, Magento, Shopify, or others – you may be able to add a new Donate button from your site’s administration console and skip the steps below.
Here’s what you’ll need to complete the steps below:
  • Your PayPal Business account username and password
  • Access to your website’s HTML code
Step-by-step instructions (total time: ~10 minutes per button)
  1. Log into your PayPal Business account.
  2. Click Tools at the top of the page, and then click PayPal buttons.
  3. Select the Donate button.
  4. Enter the item name and price. You can also customize the button with additional features. Click Create Button.
  5. Click Select Code to select the button code.
  6. Copy and paste the button code into your own web page code where you want the button to appear. Repeat the above process for every page where you want to add a button.
  7. This new button will appear on the "My Saved Buttons" page if you’d like to edit it at any point.
That’s it! You can now accept donations on your website.
As a next step, you can confirm your PayPal Business account as a charity, and then enroll in PayPal Giving Fund. Charities enrolled in the PayPal Giving Fund can receive donations through PayPal fundraising or donation programs run by our partners.

Give at Checkout enables donors to give to their favorite charity each time they check out online with PayPal. 

To benefit from Give at Checkout, charities are required to enroll with PayPal Giving Fund.

Once enrolled, charities can encourage customers to set their favorite charity within the PayPal App or PayPal Fundraising Site. After customers mark a charity as a favorite, it’ll always show up on their checkout page.

Where can I see the donations that I have received with Give at Checkout and are there any fees?

Donations are sent directly to a charity's PayPal Business account. There are no fees and each donation, along with the donation program and donor information (when shared by the donor), is available within the account activity.

How can charities send donation receipts to the donors? Restrictions to use data.

A charity can use a donor’s email address to send a donation receipt to them. Charities are prohibited from using donors’ email addresses to share marketing materials and can only use donor's data according to PayPal's Privacy Statement, unless the relevant charity obtains separate consent from a donor to do so, according to local regulations.

How can I raise financial support for my business?
Whether it’s a non-profit or for-profit, we make it easy for people to support your business with donations. You just need to set up a shareable donation link that’s hosted by PayPal, so you don’t need a website or do any coding.

How do I get started?
To get started, set up your donation link. If you want to, you can customize your landing page to include a personal message and a thank you gift voucher. You’ll get a link and a QR code that you can share by email, text, social media, chat, and more.

If you’ve got a website, you can also set up a donation button that you can customize and easily add to your website.

What’s required?
You must have a business account with PayPal to set up a donation link. This isn’t available in all markets and some business categories are not eligible. 
Mine is a for-profit business. Can I accept donations?
Donations may be treated as income. Reporting requirements vary by location, so be sure to check with your tax authority for more details. You’ll want to consult with an accounting professional for specific guidance.

How do I know if I receive a donation?
The donations will be processed by PayPal and typically show up in your account within minutes. Sometimes, to make sure transactions are secure, it may take longer to get your money and you can read more about why this may happen. You’ll receive the normal transaction notice by email and you’ll see the details in your account with PayPal. 

Will I know who has made a donation?
The names and email addresses of your donors will be part of the transaction details.

Are the donations subject to PayPal transaction fees?
Yes, you’ll pay your normal transaction fees on donations. Read more about fees.

How can I change the logo that’s displayed in my donation link?
Log in to PayPal and go to Settings. You can change or edit your logo image in Business information.

How does the optional gift voucher work?
When you set up a donation link, you can include a gift voucher for a discount on a future purchase, a complimentary product or a gift with purchase. Your gift voucher will be described in your donation link and donors can redeem it when they next make a purchase. 

How are gift vouchers redeemed?
You can decide how redemption will work best for your business. For example, they could show their donation receipt or reference the PayPal transaction ID with their next order. When you set up your gift voucher, you’ll include instructions for how donors can redeem their gift voucher.

How does donate with PayPal work with Google?
If you have a claimed Google Business profile, you can add the donation link to help generate awareness. If you don’t have an account with Google My Business, you can sign up at There are some eligibility criteria for participation in Google My Business.

How do I add a link to my Google Business profile?
Go to Google My Business and paste your link in the section named “Your donation link”. The link will automatically appear in your business profile Google Search and Google Maps.

How can I change my donation link?
Log in to Google My Business and click the link to PayPal to create a new or update an existing donation link.

What info do you share with Google?
To help us ensure that things are working as well as possible, we share with Google the aggregated performance of the donation links we host. You can read more about how Google protects your info and how you can manage your privacy in the Google privacy policy.

If your PayPal account has been approved for Dynamic Micropayments (also known as Dynamic Pricing), then PayPal automatically applies either the Micropayments rate or the applicable higher value transaction rate to each traction processed through your account based on whichever rate results in the lowest fees to you for that transaction. Eligible Micropayment transactions consist of PayPal Checkout, Donations, Standard Credit and Debit Card Payments, and Goods and Services Payments. For more information on Dynamic Micropayments rates, go to our Merchant Fees page.

What is the benefit of dynamic micropayments pricing?
Once enrolled for dynamic micropayments pricing, you’ll receive either the Micropayments rate or the applicable higher value transaction rate for eligible payment types based on whichever is the most favorable rate for the transaction amount. The calculation happens instantly at the time of the transaction. Generally, merchants who have frequent smaller transactions ($26.67 or lower for commercial transactions, and $19.05 for donations transactions) would benefit from dynamic micropayments. 

How will I know if dynamic micropayments pricing is turned on for my PayPal Business Account?
Your enrollment request will take up to 2 business days. Once you start to receive payments, you can check the Activity Download report (available online) and review the fee information. Not all payment types are eligible for micropayments pricing.

Which merchants are eligible for dynamic micropayment pricing? 
Merchants who signed up for a business account directly with PayPal are eligible for dynamic micropayments pricing. This excludes business accounts created through a third-party platform and personal accounts. In addition, merchants already on custom pricing cannot enroll for dynamic micropayments.

Click the Track your donation link in your donation receipt email to see whether your donation has been granted to the charity you intended to benefit. You can also enter the Transaction ID from your donation receipt into our donation tracker

Typically, it takes 15-45 days for a donation to be granted to a charity enrolled with PayPal Giving Fund. It can take 90 days or longer to grant a donation to charities in our database that haven’t yet enrolled with PayPal Giving Fund. 

If it has been longer than 45 days since you donated to an enrolled charity, or longer than 90 days since you donated to an unenrolled charity, please contact our customer service team.
