Setting Up Your PayPal Account

Before you start accepting payments, there are a few steps you can take to make sure your PayPal account is completely set up and validated. This helps to keep both buyers and sellers safer and able to transact with confidence.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Confirm your email address.

    When you first create your account, you should receive an email from service@paypal.com similar to the one below, asking you to confirm your email address.

    If you cannot find (or haven’t received) this email you can log in to your PayPal account and request a new confirmation email here.

  2. Link your bank account.

    This allows you to transfer money from your PayPal account to your bank account and also helps PayPal to verify your identity. It will not be visible to your customers, and you can add or change what bank accounts are associated with your PayPal account at any time. Click here to link your PayPal and bank accounts.

  3. Lift your sending and withdrawal limits.

    At first, your PayPal account will have limits on the amount of money that can be sent or withdrawn. By providing PayPal with the additional information below, you help to verify your identity and demonstrate that you are the legitimate owner of the accounts so that these limits can be lifted.

    If you have already linked your bank account you can lift your limits with one of the following options:

    • Confirm your Social Security Number

    OR

    • Link and confirm your debit or credit card
