What should I do if my balance is negative?

If your account balance is negative, we suggest that you review your recent activity to find out why.

If you suspect unauthorized activity on your account, please report it immediately through the Resolution Center.

If your account balance is negative because of insufficient funds, please resolve it as soon as possible. 
Here's how:
  1. Click Add Money below the negative balance.
  2. Select one of the options available to you and follow the instructions.
If you mail us a check, money order or cashier's check:
  • Make the payment payable to PayPal Inc.
  • Write your name and email address registered with PayPal on the payment.

If sending a check, it will take approximately 7 business days before the funds are credited to your account. If sending a money order, the funds will be credited to your account two days after being deposited in the bank.

If you initiate a payment while your account balance is negative, you'll need to resolve your negative balance first. To do that, you'll see the accepted payment methods, such as debit cards and bank accounts. Once your negative balance is resolved, you'll be able to complete the payment.
