What’s required to send money to a bank account in Brazil?

When sending a transaction, we’ll ask you information about your contact and their bank account. Make sure to enter all information carefully to avoid delays. Here’s what you’ll need to know:

  • Bank details and account number
  • The entire name of your contact as it appears on their bank account
  • A valid phone number from your contact (city code + domestic number)
  • We may ask for your contact's mailing address if required by our payment partner

Additional information to consider before sending to a bank account in Brazil:

  • You’ll also need to provide you contact’s 11-digit CPF (Cadastro de Pessoa Física or Natural Person Register). Make sure this information is correct, otherwise your transfer will be canceled.
  • Due to a recent change in Brazil’s privacy laws, we’ll ask for your recipient’s email address when you send money to Brazil.
  • When you send over 3,000 USD per month to the same person, they’ll need to complete the Autorização de Recebimento form and email it to our Customer Support.

What is a CPF number, and how can I consult my contact’s CPF?

The CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas or Natural Persons Register) is a number assigned by the Brazilian revenue agency to both Brazilians and resident aliens who are subject to taxes in Brazil.

Even when a CPF number is valid (existent), it might not be in good standing with the local government. If that’s the case for your contact’s CPF, your transaction will be canceled by our partner in Brazil.

Here’s how to check the status of a CPF in Brazil:

  • Open Brazil’s Receita Federal website
  • Enter the CPF you want to consult and its owner’s date of birth, then check the “Sou humano” box to trigger the hCaptcha.
  • Click the Consultar blue button.
  • Once the page loads, look for “Situação Cadastral”. Anything different from “REGULAR” indicates that this CPF holder’s not able to receive transfers.
