Now you can link your PayPal account to Messenger and send money to friends and family conveniently within Messenger.
Can I send money between PayPal and Venmo users?

- If you have the PayPal or Venmo app, you'll be redirected there to link your account.
- If not, you'll complete the linking process through a secure web login.
- Enter the amount you want to send.
- Choose your funding source (bank account, debit card, credit card, or choose to link your PayPal or Venmo account).
- Review and confirm the payment.
What accounts can I use with this feature?

Business accounts and non-US accounts aren't supported to send or receive payments through this feature.
What if the person I'm sending money to hasn't linked their account yet?
They'll receive a notification to claim the money. They will need to link a PayPal or Venmo account and complete the claiming process.
If they don't claim the money within 7 days, it will be returned to your account.
Are there any fees for using this feature?

- Per Transaction: $2,500
- Daily Limit: $5,000

- In your Messenger settings: Tap on transaction history In your PayPal app or web: In your transaction history
Can I cancel a payment after I've sent it through Messenger?
In most cases, cancellation isn't available because money transfers typically occur within seconds when you send it to someone with a linked Venmo or PayPal account.
If your recipient hasn't linked their account to Messenger yet, the payment should be in a pending state, and you may be able to cancel it through your PayPal transaction details before they claim it.
What happens if I need to dispute a transaction or get help?
Payments sent through Messenger are Friends & Family transactions. PayPal Purchase Protection does not apply to these payments.
Your account is still protected by PayPal's standard security policies for unauthorized transactions. However, you cannot dispute a completed payment that you authorized. If you need help with a transaction:
- View transaction details by clicking on payment cards in your Messenger chat
- View your payment in the transaction history of your PayPal app
- Access payment details through your PayPal account
- Contact PayPal customer support for transaction-related issues
Can I switch between my PayPal and Venmo accounts for different transactions?
If you have both accounts linked:
When sending: You can choose which account to use for each payment
When receiving: Money automatically goes to your default account
Managing your default account: When you link a new account, you'll be prompted to set it as your default.
- If you confirm, the new account becomes your default.
- If you decline, your previous default remains active.
- You can change your default account anytime in Messenger settings, or unlink and relink accounts as needed.
I switched my PayPal account linked to Messenger. Why do I have to log in every time I send money?
When you unlink one PayPal account and link a different one to Messenger, you'll need to log in with your PayPal credentials each time you send money. This is by design for your security.
To set up seamless payments with your new account:
- Uninstall the PayPal app from your device
- After reinstalling, go back to Messenger and link your new PayPal account
- You'll be prompted to set up a passkey for your new account
Once set up, you can send money without logging in each time
Keep in mind, this only applies if you've switched between different PayPal accounts in Messenger. If you're using the same account, you shouldn't need to log in repeatedly
