What kind of PayPal credit cards does PayPal make available?
As a PayPal customer, you may be eligible for one of our two kinds of PayPal credit card products offered through Synchrony Bank. By applying you agree that if approved, Synchrony Bank may provide you with a PayPal Extras MasterCard or a PayPal Platinum MasterCard account.

What is the difference between the PayPal Extras MasterCard and PayPal Platinum MasterCard?
The PayPal Extras MasterCard and the PayPal Platinum MasterCard are MasterCard® credit cards designed exclusively for PayPal members. Both can be used for your purchases on PayPal, as well as in stores and online, everywhere MasterCard is accepted.

The PayPal Extras MasterCard account offers you the ability to earn Rewards on your eligible purchases.

The PayPal Platinum MasterCard account has a higher interest rate than the PayPal Extras MasterCard and does not earn rewards.

Can I have a PayPal Extras MasterCard and a PayPal Platinum MasterCard?
No. You may only have one type of PayPal MasterCard account, either the PayPal Extras MasterCard or PayPal Platinum MasterCard account.

Why did I get a PayPal Platinum MasterCard when I was applying for a PayPal Extras MasterCard?
By applying you agreed that, if approved, Synchrony Bank may provide you with a PayPal Extras MasterCard or a PayPal Platinum MasterCard account. When you applied for the PayPal Extras MasterCard, you were considered for both the PayPal Extras MasterCard and the PayPal Platinum MasterCard account. At the time of your application, you were not approved for the PayPal Extras MasterCard. Your account type is determined by a number of factors at the time you apply. PayPal Platinum MasterCard provides you with the same power to purchase, convenience and security as the PayPal Extras MasterCard.

What are the benefits of the PayPal Extras MasterCard and the PayPal Platinum MasterCard?
The PayPal Extras MasterCard and the PayPal Platinum MasterCard offer all the security and convenience you'd expect from PayPal, plus MasterCard benefits. See the MasterCard Guide to Benefits for details. Applying is fast and easy and you can get your credit decision seconds after you submit your application. If you're approved, except in instances where your application is first placed into a pending status, you can start using your new credit line on PayPal right away. A temporary line of credit will be added instantly to your PayPal account, which you can use before you receive your credit card in the mail.

When can I start using my PayPal Extras MasterCard or PayPal Platinum MasterCard? How long will it take to receive it?
If you're approved, in most cases, a temporary credit line will instantly be added to your PayPal account and you can start using it on PayPal right away - - even before you receive your card. You will receive your card within 7-10 business days. It is important that you activate your credit card immediately to ensure your credit line is fully available to you. In instances where your application is first placed into a pending status before it is approved, you will not be able to use your PayPal Extras MasterCard until you receive and activate the card.

How do I start using my card?
  1. Once approved, you can, in most cases, start using your card right away on PayPal.
  2. One you receive your card in the mail, call to activate your card and start using it anywhere MasterCard is accepted.
  3. Your card is added automatically to your PayPal account. Just choose it to fund the purchases you make with PayPal or set it as your preferred funding method.

Where can I use the PayPal Extras MasterCard and PayPal Platinum MasterCard?
You can use the PayPal Extras MasterCard and the PayPal Platinum MasterCard on PayPal and anywhere MasterCard is accepted, in stores and online.

Is the PayPal Extras MasterCard or PayPal Platinum MasterCard available outside the U.S.?
No. Only U.S. and Puerto Rico residents with a U.S. PayPal account are eligible for the PayPal Extras MasterCard or the PayPal Platinum MasterCard.

Who issues the PayPal Extras MasterCard and PayPal Platinum MasterCard?
The PayPal Extras MasterCard and the PayPal Platinum MasterCard are issued by Synchrony Bank.


About Your Account



What is the limit on my new credit card account?
The limit on your credit card account is determined by Synchrony Bank. If you are approved, you will be notified of the initial credit limit on your account.

Can I access cash with my new card?
Yes. You can request a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that you can use to get cash at thousands of ATMs nationwide. To request your PIN, simply call the phone number listed on the back of your card.

How can I request an additional card to provide to someone I've authorized to use my account?
After you receive your card, just call the toll-free number on the back of your card. There's no charge for additional cards. You will be liable for all transactions made on your credit card account by any authorized users as if they were your own transactions.

Can I request an increase to my credit limit?
Yes. To make a request, contact customer service by using the customer service phone number listed on the back of your card.

How can I view my PayPal MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account transactions, statements, and payments due?
Just visit the Service site by logging into your PayPal account, then select your PayPal Extras MasterCard, PayPal Platinum MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account from your Wallet.

How do I make payments on my PayPal MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account?
You can make payments online, by phone, or by mail. For payment instructions, just visit the Service site by logging in to your PayPal account, then selecting your PayPal Extras MasterCard, PayPal Platinum MasterCard, or PayPal Smart Connect account from your Wallet.

Can I access my PayPal balance funds using my PayPal MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account?
No. At this time, you cannot access the funds in your PayPal account balance with the PayPal Extras MasterCard, PayPal Platinum MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account.

Can I pay my PayPal MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account bill using my PayPal Account balance?
Yes. You can use your PayPal account to make payments on your PayPal Extras MasterCard, PayPal Platinum MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account.

What if I want to set my PayPal MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account as my preferred payment method within my PayPal account?
When you apply, you’ll be asked if you’d like to set your new PayPal Extras MasterCard, PayPal Platinum MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account as your preferred payment method for your PayPal account.

Note: If your application is placed in a pending status for review, and subsequently approved, you will need to go into your PayPal account settings by logging into your account on PayPal.com in order to set your PayPal Extras MasterCard, PayPal Platinum MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account as your preferred payment method for your PayPal account.

To set your PayPal Extras MasterCard, PayPal Platinum MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect as your preferred payment method, click the Settings icon upon logging into your PayPal account and then select ‘Payments’. You will see the option to set your preferred payment method when paying in stores and paying online. When selecting your preferred payment for paying online you will see the option to select your PayPal Extras MasterCard, PayPal Platinum MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account exclusively, or ‘Choose a payment method at checkout’.

If you’d like to use a different payment method for a particular transaction, here's how to change your payment method during checkout:
  1. Click Change under 'Payment Method' on the 'Review Your Payment' page.
  2. Select the payment method you want and click Continue

What if I want to close my PayPal account and I have a PayPal MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account? Can I still use it?
If you choose to close your PayPal account and you have a PayPal Extras MasterCard, PayPal Platinum MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account, your options for using and servicing your PayPal MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account will be limited, as outlined in the FAQs below.

Can I still make purchases using my PayPal MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account if I close my PayPal account?
While you can continue to use your PayPal Extras MasterCard or PayPal Platinum MasterCard to make purchase in store or on-line, you will no longer be able to use the card through PayPal. You must maintain an open PayPal account to take full advantage of all the benefits associated with purchasing through PayPal.

Since the PayPal Smart Connect account is an on-line credit card that can only be used for purchases made through PayPal, once you close your PayPal account you will no longer be able to use your PayPal Smart Connect account.

Can I still access/service my PayPal MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account online if I close my PayPal account?
No. On-line access and servicing requires that you maintain an open PayPal account. Once you close your PayPal account you will receive paper statements from Synchrony Bank.

How do I redeem rewards if I close my PayPal account?
If your PayPal account is closed, you will not be able to use the card to make purchases through PayPal or earn Reward Points on PayPal Extras MasterCard purchases made through PayPal. You will continue to earn Rewards on other purchases as per the Reward Program Terms applicable to your card.

Your rewards balance will be reflected on your monthly statement and you will need to call the Customer Service number on back of your card to redeem your rewards. Your redemption options may be limited to a statement credit.

With the PayPal Extras MasterCard and PayPal Platinum MasterCard, you get MasterCard benefits for extra security and extended protection on purchases made via PayPal. See eligibility.

What does Extended Buyer Protection benefits mean?
When you use your PayPal Extras MasterCard, PayPal Platinum MasterCard or PayPal Smart Connect account to pay for merchandise through PayPal, your eligible transactions receive Extended Buyer Protection benefits from PayPal. What liability do I have for unauthorized charges made on my account?
