What is a Visa+ payname and how do I use it?
Important: As of January 26, 2026, you can no longer create new Visa+ paynames. Starting February 19, 2026, you will no longer be able to send money using Visa+. You can continue to receive money into your PayPal Balance account via Visa+ at this time
Similar to a username, a Visa+ payname is a unique handle you can use to send and receive money to and from people on Venmo. That means, money can be sent directly to your PayPal account from someone who’s not on PayPal, yet.
Your payname will start with a “+.” On PayPal, your payname will include a “.PayPal” ending, like “+JohnSmith.PayPal”. Your payname can’t be changed after it’s created.

Receiving Money with Visa+
Visa+ allows you to receive payments from supported third-party apps including Payactiv, DailyPay, eTip, and MyBambu. Payments typically arrive in your PayPal Balance account within 30 minutes, and there are no fees to receive. Each transfer has a limit of $2,500 per transaction. Your Visa+ Payname is the unique handle associated with your PayPal account that partner platforms use to send money to you.
Troubleshooting
You cannot receive Visa+ payments if your Payname has been deactivated. This can happen automatically if your PayPal account is closed or becomes restricted. As of January 26, 2026, a deactivated Payname cannot be reactivated. If your Payname is active and you are still having trouble receiving a payment, please contact the person or platform sending the funds.
