Taking Manual Card Entry

Here’s how to take a Manual Card Entry payment:

  1. Ensure that you've enabled Manual Card Entry through the following steps:
    • You've taken at least one payment through chip or tap.
    • You've had 3 hours lapse since the first chip or tap payment was taken.
    • Enable Manual Card Entry through the PayPal Zettle App Settings.
  2. Add a product to your shopping cart or enter a custom amount.
  3. Tap Charge.
  4. Choose Manual Card Entry as payment method.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. Confirm that the payment has been approved.
  7. Enter the customer’s email address/ cell phone number to send a digital receipt. You can also print the receipt if you’re connected to a supported printer or if your Terminal is attached to the Printer and Dock.

Tips for card payments:

  • Card companies no longer require signatures to be captured for chip and tap payments in most markets (including US and European markets). To simplify checkout experiences, you no longer need to collect signatures for in-store payments.
  • Payments made through PayPal Zettle are recorded as “PP*” on your customer’s bank statement. "PP*" will show next to the business name.
  • If a payment is declined, ask your customer to use another card or payment method, or ask them to contact their bank for more information.
  • If you want to accept a card payment remotely, for instance when making a card payment over the phone, you can use our manual card entry feature.
