Good News for Charities – PayPal Reduces Fees
PayPal is pleased to announce that from 17 March 2006, the variable fees that UK charities pay for receiving donations and payments have been reduced.
In fact, for a qualifying charity that previously paid 3.4% + 20p for receiving domestic payments, it need pay only 1.4% + 20p now - an overall reduction of 59%. Cross-border payment rates have also fallen.

How do I apply for PayPal’s new charity rate?
To apply, simply follow these steps:
PayPal will review your application and notify you of the outcome.
- Sign up for a PayPal Business account and select the ‘Non-Profit, Political & Religion’ category.
- Email us and ask to apply for this low charity rate.
- In your email, provide the following information:
- Charity name
- Registered postal address
- Charity Commission or OSCR number
- Mission statement
- Email address registered with your PayPal account (do not send your password)

What happens next?
Once PayPal confirms that your charity qualifies for this new reduced payment rate, all payments and donations received through PayPal will be billed at the new charity rate, irrespective of the payment volume your charity receives.
Note: UK charities will be eligible for PayPal’s reduced variable fees only after official approval from PayPal. PayPal reserves the right to change its fees at any time in accordance with the terms of the User Agreement. All other fees for receiving payments through PayPal remain unchanged.
