When and how does PayPal Giving Fund grant donations to charities?

Enrolled charities

We distibute money within 15-45 days from the date of donation and deposit a single payment into the charity's PayPal account.

Donations received from the 16th of the previous month up to the 15th of the current month are granted at the end of the current month.

***New charities must complete the enrolment process by the 15th to receive your first payment within the same month.***

We're responsible for refunds of donations to donors* by making grants once a month, which allows for any donations made in error to be remedied before a grant is made to a charity.

*Donations to PayPal Giving Fund are generally non-refundable. View our Donation Refund Policy to learn more.

Unenrolled charities

Unenrolled charities receive a cheque within 90 days from the date of donation. The cheque is posted to the charity's address listed with the ACNC.

If a donation is made to benefit a charity not currently enrolled with PayPal Giving Fund, we'll invite the charity to enrol.

If the charity chooses not to enrol, we'll endeavour to grant the money by other means in accordance with our Donation Delivery Policy.

We send an email receipt when the donation is made, and it includes a link to track your donation so that you can see when we grant the donated funds to your recommended charity. You can also enter the Transaction ID from your donation receipt into our donation tracker.

PayPal Giving Fund, or our partners on our behalf, issue official donation receipts.

Charities don't need to enrol to receive grants from PayPal Giving Fund, however, by enrolling they will:

  • Receive grants into their PayPal account in a single monthly payment.
  • Track all donations made to the charity through the charity dashboard.
  • View donor details (where the donor has agreed to share their details) to help a database.
  • Be eligible to participate in additional PayPal Giving Fund programmes.
  • Have the ability to update the charity profile page which appears on our partners' platforms such as Facebook and PayPal.

We file for Gift Aid with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) after delivering the original donation to the charity. Occasionally, due to HMRC backlogs, there may be a delay in receiving Gift Aid. Generally, we pass on Gift Aid the month after we distribute the original donation. We pass all Gift Aid to the charity, without deduction.
