How do I report a spoof email?

If you think you’ve received a hoax PayPal email or have come across a fake (phishing) PayPal website, please report it to us immediately.


How to identify hoax emails:

  • Emails from PayPal will always address you by your first and last names or your business name. We never say things like "Dear user" or "Hello PayPal member" or address you by your email address.
  • Our emails won’t link directly to pages that ask you to enter sensitive financial information like your bank account, credit card or tax file number. 

Please note that PayPal Australia Pty Ltd is not affiliated or associated with Western Union and we’ll never ask you to transfer money via Western Union or any other instant money transfer service.
 

In addition, you should always log securely into your PayPal account to view your transactions.

You can report the email to PayPal by forwarding it to phishing@paypal.com.au. We’ll review the contents of the hoax email or website and take action, if necessary.

Once you’ve forwarded the email to us, you should delete it. Do not click on any links in an email you believe may be a hoax.
