How does cashback work?

Earn up to £15 cashback each month when you shop online with PayPal and choose your preferred spending category.

How do I enrol?

To start earning cashback, simply select a category each month in your PayPal app.

You must enrol at the start of each month – your category selection does not carry over.

Can I change my cashback category during the month?

No. Once you've selected your category for the month, it cannot be changed until the next month begins.

What happens at the start of a new month?

At the beginning of each new calendar month, you’ll need to select a category again to continue earning cashback – even if you want to pick the same category as before.

Which transactions are eligible for cashback?

All transactions that meet the following criteria earn cashback:

• Use PayPal checkout during your online purchase
• Transaction must be in GBP
• The merchant category code (MCC) must be in your selected category

Transactions are categorised based on the merchant category code (MCC) of the business you purchase from. We don’t assign these codes but the are used to sort transactions into categories.

When you make a purchase, the merchant’s MCC must match one of the codes in your selected category to earn cashback. Sometimes a purchase might seem eligible for cashback but it isn’t because of the business’ MCC.

Unfortunately, the following types of transactions are not eligible for cashback:

• Sending or receiving money
• Charitable donations
• Paypal.me payments
• PayPal Business Debit Mastercard directly without PayPal checkout

Where can I find my cashback?

Once your purchase is confirmed by the merchant, cashback will be deposited into your PayPal balance.

To view cashback per transaction:

• Go to the Activity section in your PayPal app
• Eligible purchases will be labelled: “3% cashback on” and the name of your category

When will I receive my cashback?

Cashback is typically deposited in your PayPal balance within up to 30 days after the merchant confirms the eligible transaction. Processing times may vary.

What’s the maximum cashback I can earn?

You can earn up to £15 cashback per calendar month.

Once you've reached the cap, you'll need to wait until the next month (and reselect a category) to continue earning.

What categories can I choose from?

Choose one category each month from the following:

• Food and Dining
  (restaurants, fast food, bakeries, specialty food stores, food delivery)

• Fashion and Retail
  (clothing, accessories, shoes, department stores, beauty products)

• Ground Transport
  (local transit, railways, bus lines, taxis, ride-hailing)

• Home and Electronics
  (home improvement, decor, furniture, kitchen supplies, electronics)

What are examples of eligible merchants in each category?

Food and Dining

• Ocado, Domino's, Iceland, Just Eat, HelloFresh, Deliveroo

Fashion and Retail

• ASOS, Debenhams, JD Sports, Boohoo, Next, Gymshark 

Ground Transport

• Uber, Trainline, National Express, Eurostar

Home & Electronics

• Currys, Argos, B&Q, IKEA, Screwfix, John Lewis

What if I didn’t receive cashback for an eligible transaction?

If your transaction meets all the eligibility criteria, and you believe it should have qualified for cashback but didn’t, please log in to your PayPal account and Contact Us.

How do I withdraw from the promotion?

You can opt out at any time. Simply log in to your PayPal account and Contact Us.
