What are the fees to use PayPal?

PayPal doesn't charge a fee to open a PayPal account.

Sending money – Personal payments:

There are no fees, within the UK, to send money in Pounds Sterling, to family and friends when you use your PayPal balance, debit card or bank account (or a combination of those) where no currency conversion is involved.

There is a fee to send money as a personal payment, to people resident outside of the UK, where the payment is funded in full or in part using a debit card or credit card. The fee is 3.4% plus 20p of the amount you send. For example, if you send £100.00 GBP funded by debit or credit card, the fee would be £3.60 GBP (£3.40 GBP + 20p).

Receiving money – Personal payments:

It's free to receive money from friends or family within the UK when they send the money from the PayPal website using their PayPal balance, debit card or bank account (or a combination of those) where no currency conversion is involved.

Goods and services – Purchase payments:

There’s no fee to use PayPal to purchase goods or services. However, if you receive money for goods or services (such as from selling an item on eBay), the fee for each transaction is 3.4% plus 20p of the amount you receive.

International payments:

There is a fee when you send a payment to someone in another country or if you receive a payment from someone in another country.  The PayPal user agreement has specific information.  You can find the User Agreement by clicking Legal at the bottom of any PayPal page.

Note: It's currently not possible to send or receive a personal payment to and from India using PayPal. If you’re sending money for a personal payment to India, we ask that you find another way, we currently recommend Xoom.com.

Withdrawing money:

You can withdraw money from your PayPal account to your bank account at no cost.
