To help ensure PayPal remains a safer place for all customers to transact, and to comply with regulatory requirements, we may ask you to confirm your identity when you’re reaching a total transaction value of S$7,500.

How do I know if the request for my identification documents is really from PayPal?

When the total transaction amount (send and receive) of your PayPal account is reaching SGD7,500, PayPal will send you a request to submit a copy of your identification documents. You can either log in to your PayPal account to upload your documents or fax them to us. You can also verify the authenticity of the request by contacting our Customer Support at (65) 6510 4650 or email us at compliance-apac@paypal.com.

Why does PayPal require my identification documents?

Your identification documents will help us validate your information, ensuring that you are the rightful account owner. The security measure we’ve put in place is also in line with regulatory requirements to conduct customer due diligence. Reference

How do I submit the required documents?

You can upload your documents online or fax them to us.

To upload:
Step 1: Login to your PayPal account
Step 2: Go to “Resolution Centre” and follow the instructions on how to upload your documents

Please note that there is a 1.28MB size limit for each document, and the maximum size for all documents is 5MB.

To fax:
State your email address and case number on each fax sheet and send them to (65) 6510-4576 Attn: Compliance Department.

What happens if I do not send the required documents on time?

If the required documents do not reach us on time, a limit on your account will be placed as a security measure.
15 days from 1st notification: You will not be able to send payments or withdraw your PayPal balance.
40 days from 1st notification: You will not be able to send and receive payments or withdraw your PayPal balance.
The limitation on your account will be removed once we have received and reviewed your documents.

Are my documents secure when I send them? Will my information be shared with third parties?

Keeping your information safe and secure is always our priority. PayPal does not share your personal information with third parties other than as stated in our privacy policy, in accordance with your preferences, and as required by law.

My account has already been verified. Why do you still need my identification documents?

PayPal’s verification process is designed to help safeguard your financial information. We may request for additional identification documents, such as a photo identification and others, in order to validate your identity. This is in line with regulatory requirements, designed to prevent identity theft, money laundering and terrorist financing.

I am not a Singapore citizen, but hold a Singapore PayPal account. Am I required to provide identification documents?

Yes. This procedure applies to all PayPal accounts, which list Singapore as the country of residence or incorporation.

I have registered my PayPal account in Singapore but I am now residing overseas. What should I do?

You will need to open a PayPal account in the country that you are now resident in. Please go to www.paypal.com.sg to open a new account. Or, please login to your account and Contact Customer Support for help.

I have opened a business PayPal account in Singapore but my business is registered overseas. What should I do?

I have two PayPal accounts under the same company. One of them has completed review of the identification documents. Do I need to submit documentation again if I receive a notification for my other account?

Yes. If you have more than one account, you’ll need to submit the relevant documents for each account to us.

What if the name on my PayPal account does not match the name on my ID or other official documents?

The name registered on your PayPal account must match the name on your documentation, such as your photo ID, bank account statement, etc. If they do not, please submit a request to Customer Support to have it updated:

Step 1: Login to your PayPal account
Step 2: In the “My Account” tab, select "Profile"
Step 3: At the Name field of the Profile page, click “Change”
Step 4: Select the type of name change you would like to make
Step 5: Click "Continue" and follow the online instruction
