How do I confirm a debit or credit card that I've linked to my PayPal account?

To confirm your credit or debit card, we’ll charge your card 200 JPY to generate a unique 4-digit PayPal code on your card statement. Please find the code on your card statement and enter it on the PayPal website. The charge will be refunded to your card once the card is confirmed or if the 4-digit code is left unused for 75 days. Depending on your card issuer, the refund may take up to 30 days to appear on your card statement.

Here are the 3 steps to confirm your card:

Step 1. Authorize PayPal to send a code to you

  1. Go to Wallet.
  2. Click on the card you want to confirm.
  3. Click Confirm card.
  4. Review the process and click OK.

Step 2. Locate the charge and a code on your card statement

The PayPal code is displayed on your card statement next to the charge of 200 JPY. In the item description section, you will see it next to the word “PayPal.” For example, if you see PayPal*1234CODE or PP*1234CODE on your statement, then “1234” is your code. Please allow 2 to 4 business days for the PayPal code to appear on your online card statement. Otherwise, check for the code when you receive your next statement in the mail.

Note: If you've requested for the code more than once, you may be charged again and receive another 4-digit code. Please use the latest code you receive to confirm your card. All the charges will be returned to you after the card is confirmed.

Step 3. Confirm your card by entering the code

Have your 4-digit PayPal code ready.

  1. Go to Wallet.
  2. Click on the card you requested to confirm.
  3. Click Confirm card.
  4. Enter the 4-digit code and click Confirm.
