What are Grant Payments?

We partner with grantmakers, such as significant donor-advised funds and community foundations, to deliver grants to charities directly into their PayPal account. Charities can review the grant information and accept or decline it within their dashboard. There are currently no fees associated with receiving grants via PayPal.

How does my charity receive grants via PayPal?

US charities need to confirm their charity account with PayPal to be eligible to receive grants via PayPal. All PayPal-confirmed charities can receive grants via PayPal from our partner grantmakers.

When a grantmaker sends you a grant, you’ll receive an email as well as a notification on your PayPal account home page. Simply click the link to find the details of the pending grant in your Grant Payments dashboard.

You can review the grant details from the dashboard, including donor details, grant letter, and terms & conditions. Then you can decide to accept or decline this grant. If you accept it, the money is available in your PayPal account within one day. You may also choose to decline it and provide a reason for this decision.

You can keep track of the grant status in the dashboard and download any information you need. Contact us if you need access to the CSV download data key, which includes column names and character limits, or an example of the spreadsheet.

What if a grant expires before I accept it?

Every pending grant has an expiration date set by the grantmaker. If you miss the expiration date, it’ll show up as “Expired” in your Grant Payments dashboard, and the grantmaker will try to resend the money to you via other transfer methods. Please get in touch with the grantmaker if you have questions about the grant. You can locate the transaction ID on the grant details page to help the grantmaker find your grant.

What if I have questions about a grant offered to my charity?

If there are questions about a grant you received, please contact the grantmaker.

How do I change the contact name or email address on my charity PayPal account?

If the contact name on your charity PayPal account has changed, you'll need to upload documents to complete the name change. Read this article if you need to change the primary email address on your PayPal account.

What if I don’t see a grant I was expecting to receive?

If there are questions about a grant you expected to receive from a specific grantmaker, you can contact the grantmaker directly.

How do I turn off grant payments?

  1. Go to your Grant Payments dashboard.
  2. Select Settings in the top right corner.
  3. Select Stop receiving grants.
  4. Click Stop Grant Payments.

If you disable grant payments, you can still log into your dashboard to view older transactions.
