How do I add and confirm a credit card on my PayPal account?

Adding and confirming your credit card helps protect your account:

  • It increases security within the PayPal community.
  • It confirms your identity and verifies that you own the card associated with your PayPal account.
  • It limits the risk of stolen credit cards and fake identities.

When you request the confirmation of your card, you authorize us to charge a small refundable amount to that card. This also generates a unique random code which will appear on your card statement to which only you have access.

To add a credit card to your account:

  1. Go to your Wallet.
  2. Click + Add a card.
  3. Select the Card Type and enter all the information.
  4. Click Save.

To confirm your card:

  1. Go to your Wallet.
  2. Click the card you want to confirm.
  3. Click Confirm credit card.
  4. Read the information provided and click OK.

The charge will appear on your online card statement in a few business days, depending on your card issuing bank. If you don't have online access, wait for your statement in the mail. Your unique, randomly generated 4-digit PayPal code is displayed on your card statement near the PayPal charge. In the item description section, you will see it next to the word PAYPAL.

To enter the code and complete the confirmation of your card:

  1. Go to your Wallet.
  2. Click the desired card with the "Ready to confirm" banner.
  3. Click Confirm credit card.
  4. Enter the 4-digit code we sent to you.
  5. Click Confirm.
