How do I set a card as a preferred payment method?

Here’s how to set a card as a preferred payment method:

  1. Go to your Wallet.
  2. Click the card you'd like to use as your preferred payment method.
  3. Click Set as preferred.

Here’s how to set a card as your preferred payment method on the PayPal app:

  1. Go to your Wallet
  2. Scroll down to Preferences.
  3. Tap to set your preferred payment method for online purchases, in-person purchases, and more.

In the new app experience, here's how to manage your preferred payment method:

  1. Tap Me tab.
  2. Select Accounts
  3. Scroll down to Payment Preferences
    • Tap Online payments to set your preferred way to pay when you shop online or send money for goods and services.
    • Tap In-store payments to set your preferred way to pay when you pay with a QR code or other in-store options.
  4. Select the payment method you'd like to use.
  5. Tap Save.

You can also choose your preferred payment method when making a payment:

  • During checkout or when transferring money, tap the payment method selector
  • Choose the card or bank account you want to use
  • Complete your payment

You need to add a payment method (such as a card) to your PayPal account before you can select it as a preferred way to pay.

Setting a preferred payment method won’t affect automatic payments, like subscriptions or billing agreements. To set a preferred payment method for an automatic payment, go to your automatic payments and select the merchant in question.
