Transaction fees

Note: Transaction processing fees are separate from BigCommerce's service fees. For information on BigCommerce's fees, look here or contact their Support team.

Your processing fees are not displayed in the Braintree Control Panel, but you can download a statement to see exactly what you've been charged.

Credit cards

Fees are assessed for credit card transactions on a per-transaction basis. Braintree's credit card processing fee is comprised of two parts: the discount rate, which is the percentage Braintree takes from each transaction, and the per-transaction fee, which is a fixed dollar amount deducted from each transaction.

Braintree's standard processing fee is 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. There are no monthly fees, and you only pay for what you use—there's no minimum transaction processing amount. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover are all included at the same rate.

This processing fee only applies to successful credit card transactions and will be deducted from your daily disbursements. Declines and voids will not incur fees. If you choose to use your own American Express account, Braintree will charge a per-transaction fee on top of whatever fees that you pay AmEx directly.

PayPal

Braintree will not charge any fees for PayPal transactions; only PayPal's processing fees apply.

Rounding down

When calculating fees, Braintree rounds down if there is a remainder value past the penny. These are calculated on the transaction level, so if you manually multiply your fees by the total settled sales for a given month, there may be a slight discrepancy between the calculated value and the fee details listed on your statement.

As a result of rounding down, Braintree often charges slightly less than your discount rate!

Refunds

If you refund a payment for goods or services, there are no fees to make the refund, but the fees you originally paid as the seller are not returned to you. The amount of the refunded payment will be deducted from your PayPal account.

Chargebacks, retrievals, and pre-arbitrations

The bank that manages the chargeback or pre-arbitration will charge a non-refundable $15 fee regardless of whether you win the dispute. This fee only applies to chargebacks and pre-arbs; retrievals do not result in a fee at this time. For more information on chargebacks, look here.
