Payments in BigCommerce
PayPal together with Braintree will handle your BigCommerce shop, giving your customers the best checkout experience possible.
PayPal powered by Braintree makes it easy to accept payments through your BigCommerce store. Our payment gateway is similar to the credit card terminal you swipe your card through at the grocery store—we'll make sure your customer's payment information gets to the right places and doesn't fall into the wrong hands.
When you sign up for BigCommerce, you'll automatically be assigned a PayPal powered by Braintree provisional merchant account. This will give you access to your new payment gateway via the Braintree Control Panel. To get your funds, you'll need to fill out an application and get approved for a full merchant account.
With BigCommerce and PayPal powered by Braintree, your connection to payment processing is simple; all the guesswork and setup has been done for you. Keep in mind that your simplified gateway won’t have all the bells and whistles of a full-stack integration with Braintree, but it does let you focus on what matters most—running your business.
What you’ll get
A merchant account is not a bank account—it's what Braintree uses to route funds from your customers' accounts to your bank account. A merchant account is similar to a line of credit, so you'll need to fill out an application. Until your application is complete, you'll be given a provisional merchant account.
Provisional merchant account
Until you complete your full application, Braintree will provide you with a provisional merchant account. You will be able to accept up to 2500 USD or 25 transactions from customers, but the funds will not be disbursed until the account is approved—which usually takes just 1 business day if we don't need to request any additional information from you. After approval, there are no processing or disbursement limits.
Braintree Control Panel
Braintree's Control Panel will give you access to monthly statements and reports to assist with reconciliation, as well as the Disputes portal, where you can manage your chargebacks, retrievals, and pre-arbitrations on credit card transactions.
Accepting PayPal alongside credit cards is easy. As part of your full application, you'll either link an existing PayPal account with BigCommerce and Braintree, or you can create a new PayPal account. Either way, you'll be able to manage your PayPal processing settings and disputes from your PayPal console.
BigCommerce control panel
To configure, design, and manage your store, you'll use the BigCommerce control panel. The BigCommerce control panel will also contain your order history and should be the first place you go to research and manage orders.
