Why do I need to confirm my identity? (CIP)
We are committed to ensuring PayPal remains a safer place for all customers to transact. In line with the federal regulatory requirements, we may ask you to confirm your personal information or your business entity before we can offer you certain products and services.
If you want to keep money in PayPal or use other features that rely on a balance, in addition to confirming your identity with PayPal, you will need set up a balance account which will be linked to your personal account.
Once we are able to verify your information, you may be eligible to benefit from the use of the following products and services:
- Add Money (Add money from your bank account into your PayPal account)
- PayPal Debit Card
- Grace Period Payments
- Other various product offerings:
- PayPal Prepaid Card
- PayPal Here
- Top Up, Billpay, and/or other features
- Digital Goods when you use a prepaid option
- Cash-In Products, Cards, Retailer, and/or other partners
We first use a National Database to confirm your personal information or your business entity. However if we're unable to verify them electronically, you will need to send us documentation through your account. Rest assured that we maintain protection over your information at all times in accordance with our Privacy Statement.
Personal information we confirm can include your name, physical address, date of birth, and Individual Tax ID/Social Security number. For business entity verification, we may request for your Business Registration document, Certificate of Good Standing as well as a document to validate your business address.
How do I provide the required information?
You can provide the information and upload the required documents directly from your PayPal account.
