Has PayPal's support for the CyberCash MCK changed?

Yes, support for the CyberCash MCK (Merchant Connection Kit) is winding down and effective March 31, 2018, the product will no longer be available. Merchants using CyberCash will need to integrate with another PayPal product before this date to continue processing secure internet payments.

Here's what CyberCash MCK users need to know going forward:

Why is CyberCash MCK being deprecated?
Because the product is more than 20 years old, it's not compatible with the latest PCI and security standards, such as TLS 1.2, and can't be upgraded to be compliant. PayPal as a company is moving toward support of only TLS 1.2 in all our products and services.

As an MCK user, what do I need to do?
Before March 31, 2018, you must integrate with another PayPal product or select a new payment gateway service provider within your shopping cart or application. PayPal recommends one of the following options:
  • Payflow – Open a new Payflow Pro account and integrate with the Payflow API. Merchants and partners will still have access to the PNREFs of their account for reference transactions. You'll also be able to keep your existing banking relationship.
    • To open a new Payflow account, contact PayPal Sales by phone at 877-579-5977 or online.
    • To enable a merchant to process reference transactions, PayPal must set up cross-vid reference transactions on their existing CyberCash account as well as their new Payflow account.
  • Braintree – Create a new account and integrate with the Braintree SDKs. Current CyberCash account data will be lost, but stored credit cards can be transferred to Braintree. To discuss your Braintree options, you can contact Braintree Sales:

Can I keep my existing CyberCash account?
PayPal can keep your existing CyberCash account in a "Live" status, which enables you to access reports and your transaction history through the PayPal Manager. However, after March 31 you won't be able to use the account to process transactions.

Which SDK or API do I use?
  • For a Braintree account, you'll use either the the Payflow SDK/API or the Braintree SDK. For details, see the Braintree Developer Portal.

What if I didn't do the original integration?
If you're using a pre-built shopping cart or application, go to the Payment Gateway section and see if Braintree or Payflow Pro is listed. If one of these is listed, open a new account and provide the account information, You should then be able to continue to process credit card transactions.

What happens to my existing data?
For the Payflow or Braintree options, your credit card data can be migrated to your new account, although you'll lose all history once you move to the new account. To help you with this transition, PayPal will allow you to keep your existing CyberCash account in a "Live" status so that you can continue running reports in PayPal Manager.

What if I currently use Recurring Billing?
For the Payflow or Braintree options, your Recurring Billing profile information can be migrated to your new account, although you'll lose all Recurring Billing profile payment information once you move to the new account. If you've opted to keep your existing CyberCash account in "Live" status, you'll still be able to view Recurring Billing profile payments.

Can I continue to use my same bank?
If you open a new Payflow Pro account, you can keep your existing banking relationship. If you decide to open a Braintree account, then Braintree will become your merchant acquiring bank.
