How do I void authorizations in Virtual Terminal?

If you complete an Authorization and now want to refund the customer, you must void the Authorization. Authorizations are the only transaction type you can void. After completing a void:
  • You can't capture any funds associated with that Authorization.
  • PayPal returns the funds to the customer.

Note: Voiding an Authorization cancels the entire open amount. You can complete a void in these situations:
  • The Authorization is pending.
  • The authorized amount was captured at less than 100 percent.

Here's how to void an Authorization:
  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Click Activity.
  3. Do one of the following:
  • Find the transaction you want to void and click the name of the billing person or company. You'll see information about the transaction on the Transaction Details page. Then, click Void.
  • Click Void in the Actions column for the transaction you want to void.
