How do I report an unauthorised transaction in my PayPal account?

An unauthorised payment could be any payment made from a credit card, bank account or PayPal account without the account owner's permission. If you notice a transaction in your PayPal account that you didn’t authorise, please report it to us right away.

*Have you pre-approved any payment? Before filing a case, make sure that the payment isn't related to a subscription service or automatic payment agreement that you signed up in the past. Check your pre-approved payments now.

To report an authorised payment to us, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Resolution Centre.
  2. Click Report a problem.
  3. Select the transaction you want to report and click Continue.
  4. Select "I want to report unauthorised activity."
  5. Follow the steps to report the transaction.

If you're unable to log in to your PayPal account, please call us.

What's Next?
We'll investigate your case to determine whether there has been an unauthorised transaction eligible for protection. If it's eligible, we'll return the full amount of the payment to your PayPal account. The investigation usually completes in 10 business days and we'll email you the decision. You can also track your case anytime in the Resolution Centre.

Meanwhile, please change your password and security questions to help protect your PayPal account from further unauthorised activities.
