An unauthorised payment could be any payment made from a credit card, bank account or PayPal account without the account owner's permission.
If our system detects that a payment is abnormal, we'd place a hold on it to determine if it’s authorised. The funds can't be withdrawn during our review. If the payment is determined unauthorised, the funds will be returned to the sender's account. Sellers who meet the eligibility guidelines under PayPal Seller Protection are also protected.
If you notice an unauthorised charge on your account, please report it to us immediately following the steps below:
- Go to Resolution Centre.
- Click Report a Problem.
- Select the transaction ID you want to dispute and click Continue.
- Select "Unauthorised transaction" then click Continue.
- Follow the instructions to file the claim.
We'll investigate your case to determine whether there has been an unauthorised transaction eligible for protection. If it's eligible, we'll return the full amount of the payment to your PayPal account.
The investigation usually completes in 10 business days and we'll email you the decision. You can also track your case anytime in the Resolution Centre
