Do I have to file a PayPal Buyer Protection claim within a certain timeframe?

Yes. The first step is to open a dispute within 45 days of your payment and try to work out the problem with the seller through the Dispute Resolution process in the Resolution Centre. If you're unable to resolve the dispute, you can escalate it to a claim with PayPal within 20 days of the date the dispute was opened. Thereafter, the dispute will close automatically and you will not be eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection coverage.

To learn how our dispute process works, review the step-by-step guide in the Resolution Centre.

To learn about PayPal Buyer Protection, go to the Security Centre and click Protection for Your Purchases under the Buying Safely section.
