Why are the funds missing from my PayPal account? (Malaysia ONLY - inactive/dormant account for 7 years or more)
In accordance with the Malaysian Unclaimed Moneys Act 1965, PayPal is required to turn over your funds to the Jabatan Akauntan Negara Malaysia (JANM) (Accountant General/Registrar) when the funds have been dormant or inactive in your account for 7 years or more.
To ensure your funds are not subject to the Malaysia Unclaimed Moneys Act, you need to do one of the following by the due date stated in the Unclaimed Moneys notification emails we sent:
- Make a payment. You can do this on any website that accepts PayPal or you can make a payment from your PayPal account.
- Make a withdrawal. Log in to your PayPal account and click Withdraw money to withdraw the funds to your linked bank account/Visa card account. It is free if RM400 or more is withdrawn to a bank account; RM3 if less than RM400 is withdrawn to a bank account; or RM20 if withdrawing to a Visa card account.
- Add funds to your account. Log in to your PayPal account and click Add money using RHB to add funds from your linked bank account or you can receive a payment to your PayPal account.
If your account is limited, you'll need to log in to your PayPal account to first solve the limitation(s) in order to transact on your account. Please act as soon as you can. It can take several days to confirm your documents and remove the limitation.
If there are funds in the PayPal account and no action has been taken by the due date, the funds will be sent to the Jabatan Akauntan Negara Malaysia (JANM) and the account may be closed.
If you have questions regarding your funds and how to claim them back, please refer to the Malaysia Unclaimed Moneys Act on Jabatan Akauntan Negara Malaysia (JANM).
