I don't have a PayPal account. Why did I get an email from PayPal that I received a payment?

If you received a payment notification from PayPal, that means someone has sent you a payment through PayPal. You can accept this payment by signing up for a PayPal account with the same email address you received the notification. Learn more about different ways to receive payments through PayPal.

For the first time you receive a payment with PayPal, you’ll need to accept the payment manually. Simply go to the “Activity” page, and click the Accept button next to the payment you’ve just received.

If you don’t recognise the payment and don’t want to accept it, you may just ignore the payment notification. The payment will be automatically cancelled after if it hasn’t been claimed by the recipient within 30 days.
