How do I resolve a negative balance in my PayPal account?

Your PayPal balance could become negative if your transaction is reversed for any reason, such as a chargeback or a lost claim, and there aren’t enough funds in your account to cover for the amount.

In such cases, you must reimburse PayPal for the amount of the reversed transaction, plus any associated fees incurred by PayPal. Please resolve your negative account balance as soon as possible. If the negative balance isn’t resolved within 120 days, your account may be locked and you won’t be able to log in to your PayPal account.

You can resolve the negative balance on your PayPal India account using the following options:

  1. Receive a payment: When you receive a new payment into your PayPal account, we'll deduct the amount to set-off your negative balance.
  2. Send a payment: When you make a payment, we'll add your "negative balance" amount to the same transaction. For instance, if your PayPal balance is -$10USD and you're paying $20USD for a purchase, your card will be charged $30USD. You can see the payment breakdown information of both your online purchase and the negative balance paid on the "Transaction Details" page.
  3. Send a cheque to PayPal: You can send a personal cheque, a cashier's cheque or a money order for the amount of your negative balance (in USD only) to the following address. Please make the cheque payable to PayPal and include your PayPal email address on the Memo line. After we receive your cheque, it usually takes 2-7 business days to add money to your PayPal account.
