What if the name on my PayPal account and bank account are different?

 

The name on your PayPal Account should match the name on your bank account.

If the name on your bank account differs in any way, check with your bank to make sure that transfers will go through. If they won’t, you’ll need to update the name on your bank account or the name on your PayPal Account.

We can help you change the name on your PayPal Account if it's misspelled or if you've legally changed your name. However, it is not possible to change the name on your account to another person's name.

Here’s how to change your name:

  1. Log in to your PayPal Account.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Edit beside your name.
  4. Select the appropriate option and click Continue.
  5. Follow the instructions to change your name.

You may be required to submit some documentation. If so, we’ll review them within 3 to 5 working days and contact you once our review is complete.
