What if I forgot my password or my password has been locked?

Here's how to create a new password.

  1. Go to the PayPal homepage and click Problem with login?
  2. Select one of the following:
    • If you know your email address, click I don’t know my password. Then enter your email address.
    • If you don’t know your email address, click I don’t know either one. Enter up to 3 email addresses you might have used to sign up for your PayPal account.
  3. Enter the code shown in the image.
  4. Click Continue and follow the instructions.

I forgot my password.
If you forgot your password, you have to create a new password. It’s easy to do. Use the steps below to create a new password.
  1. Go to the PayPal website.

  4. Enter the email address you registered with PayPal.
  5. Enter the characters shown in the image in the security text box, and click Continue.
  6. Enter information to confirm that you own the account, and click Continue.
  7. Enter your new password twice, and click Submit.

  3. Click I don’t know what email address I used.
  4. Enter up to 3 email address you may have used to create your PayPal account.
  5. Select the option to I want to create a new password or select I know my password and want to log in.
  6. Enter the characters shown in the image in the security text box, and click Continue.
  7. Follow the prompts to complete updating your email address.
  8. Enter your new password twice, and click Submit.

Why can't I log in?
You might not be able to log in if:
  • You forgot your password or email address.
  • You changed your email address or password.
If you forgot your password or changed your email address, click Problem with login and follow the instructions.

You may also need to clear your cache and cookies.


Here's how to clear your cache and cookies if you’re using Windows:


For Internet Explorer 8 and 9:

  1. Click Tools near the top of the browser..
  2. Click Safety, and then click Delete browsing history.
  3. Select the Cookies check box, and then click Delete.


For Safari 5:

Here's how to clear your cache:

  1. Click Safari.
  2. Click Empty Cache.
  3. Click Empty.

Here's how to clear your cookies:

  1. Click Safari.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Click Security.
  4. Click Show Cookies.
  5. Click Remove All.
  6. Click Remove All to confirm the deletion.
  7. Click Done to finish the process.
  8. Restart Safari for the changes to take place.


For Firefox 4.0:

Click on the Firefox button at the top of the screen.

  1. Click Options.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Click Network.
  4. Under Offline Storage, click Clear Now.
  5. Click OK.

Here's how to clear cache and cookies if you're using Mac OS X:


For Safari 5:

Here's how to clear your cache:

  1. Click Safari.
  2. Click Empty Cache.
  3. Click Empty.

Here's how to clear your cookies:

  1. Click Safari.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Click Security.
  4. Click Show Cookies.
  5. Click Remove All.
  6. Click Remove All to confirm the deletion.
  7. Click Done to finish the process.
  8. Restart Safari for the changes to take place.


For Firefox 4.0:

  1. Click Firefox.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Click Network.
  5. Under Offline Storage, click Clear Now.
  6. Click OK.

Here's how to clear your cache and cookies for Safari for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch:

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Click Safari.
  3. Click Clear Cookies.
  4. Click Clear Cookies again.
  5. Click Clear Cache.
  6. Click Clear Cache again.

Remember that these instructions are for your internet browser and not PayPal. For additional information about deleting cache, cookies, and other temporary internet files, or if you didn’t see instructions for your particular web browser or browser version, go to your browser's support site.

You might not be able to log in if:
  • You forgot your password or email address.
  • You changed your email address or password.
