  • What is the PayPal Access Card?

The PayPal Access Card can give you instant access to the money in your PayPal account with no need to top up. You can use it to withdraw cash, to shop online and on the high street, at home or overseas, wherever MasterCard is accepted. It is issued for PayPal by PrePay Technologies Ltd.

  • Where can I use my card?

You can use your PayPal Access Card at ATMs, online, on the high street and overseas at over 32 million locations worldwide, anywhere MasterCard is accepted. Fees apply.

  • Can I use my card abroad?

Yes, you can use your card at home or abroad. If you use your card overseas there is a 2.75% foreign exchange fee and cash withdrawals will cost £3 plus 2.75% per withdrawal.

  • Are there any fees for using my card?

  • How does the PayPal Access Card work?

You need money in your PayPal account in order to use your PayPal Access Card, so it's important to keep track of your PayPal balance. As long as you have funds in your PayPal account, you can use your card to withdraw cash and shop online or on the high street, at home or overseas.

  • How can I get a PayPal Access Card?

Currently the PayPal Access Card is only available by invitation which selected customers will receive by email.

  • Why have I received a Restricted Card (R)?

If you've received a Restricted Card (R) it just means that we need a bit more information about you before we can issue you with either the Standard or Full Card that is applicable to you. To apply to upgrade to a Standard or Full Card, click here.

  • Why have i received a Standard Card?

You have been issued with a Standard PayPal Access Card as there are some limits which apply to your card, which are outlined in the How it Works tab under 'fees and limits for using your card' section.

  • What is contactless?

With your PayPal Access Card you can make instant contactless payments up to £30. It’s perfect for those on-the-go purchases – just tap your card on the card reader and you’re done.
  • Is it possible to have an additional card holder with my Access Card?

Yes. Your partner or relative can be added as an additional cardholder.

There is a maximum limit of two Cards per PayPal Account (including the Primary Account holder) and a maximum limit of four Cards per household. As the applicant you are responsible for any additional card issued to your PayPal Account and any fees or charges that these cards may incur. The Card limits set out in paragraph 4.3 of the terms and conditions will apply per PayPal Account.

You can add an additional cardholder to your account by going to My Account and selecting Additional Cardholder from the left navigation and following the steps.

Getting started

  • When can I start to use my new card?

Once you’ve activated your card and retrieved your PIN online, you can start using your card straight away.

  • How can I activate my new card?

To activate your card, click here or simply click on the ‘Activate’ button at the top of this page when you're ready.

Once you've completed your Billing Agreement, click on the link to activate your Card, and enter the 3 digit security code found on the back of your Card. You will receive on-screen confirmation once your Card has been activated, and your PIN will be revealed to you.

  • How do I get my Pin?

After activating your card, you’ll be able to view your PIN online by logging in to your Online Card Account Manager. Make sure you keep your PIN secure at all times.

  • Why do I have to agree to a billing agreement and what is it?

A billing agreement allows PayPal to make payments for services within your account without the need for you to log into your PayPal account each time a purchase is made. To use your PayPal Access Card, you’ll need to set up a billing agreement with PrePay Technologies Ltd (the card issuer).

  • What can I do in the Online Card Account Manager?

You are able to keep track of all of your card activity, view statements, update your details and view your PIN. To log in to your Account Manager click here or click the 'Account Manager' button at the top of this page.

  • Will all my transactions be shown in my PayPal account? 

Yes, all transactions will appear in your PayPal account history and you will be able to see that the transaction was made via your PayPal Access Card. You can also view your card transactions in your Online Card Account Manager.

  • What happens if my card is lost or stolen?

Please call Card Customer Services on +44 0333 700 70 60 (24 hour Lost and Stolen Service) to report your card being lost or stolen – your card will be blocked and a replacement will be sent out to you. Fees may apply. You can also report this in your Online Card Account Manager. Please also refer to the terms and conditions.

  • What do I do if I have forgotten my PIN? 

You can view your PIN at any time by logging in to your Online Card Account Manager or you can call Card Customer Services 0333 700 70 60.

  • How can I change my PIN?

You can change your PIN at any ATM where MasterCard is accepted.

  • My card currently has an annual limit, how can I upgrade? 

If your card has an annual limit, you can apply to upgrade to a card that allows you to spend more. To upgrade, fill out the form on the back of the letter received with your card or click here to download the form.

  • Why do I have to upgrade to a Premier account? 

To use your new PayPal Access Card, you'll need to upgrade from a Personal to a Premier account. It's really easy to upgrade and it's free. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account and click on 'Upgrade', which is located at the top left, underneath your user name.
  2. Click on the 'Upgrade now' button
    (don't worry if you see 'Business account', as you'll be able to select a Premier account in the next step).
  3. Select 'Premier account' and then click 'Continue' to complete the upgrade.
  • I've recently changed my personal details in my PayPal account. Why haven't they updated in my PayPal Access Card Online Card Account Manager?

For technical reasons, changes you make to your personal information in your PayPal account will not automatically be updated in your Online Card Account Manager and vice versa. If you have changed your address, phone number or other personal information recently, please be sure you update this both in your PayPal account Profile and in your Online Card Account Manager.

  • Why was my Card declined? 

You need money in your PayPal account before you can use your card, so it's important to keep track of your balance to avoid your Card being declined. 
You can check your balance at any time online, at ATMs, or by SMS by texting 'BAL' to 62226. You can also call Customer Services on +44 0333 700 70 60.
