How do I receive money in my PayPal account?
When someone sends you a payment through PayPal we'll notify you by email (or text message for payments sent to your mobile phone number).
If you've already got a PayPal account and you've confirmed your email address, we'll credit the payment to your PayPal account balance. If you don't have a PayPal account, you must sign up for one first and then confirm your email address before you can receive the payment.
The received money can be withdrawn to your UK bank account or used to buy things or send money at a later date.
What are the fees for receiving money?
- Receiving a personal payment (e.g. a gift from family) is free if the sender uses their PayPal balance or their bank as the payment method. If they use a credit or debit card there will be a small fee. The sender can decide to pay this or pass it on to you.
- If you're receiving a business payment (e.g. when selling items on eBay) then you'll be charged a fee. For more information on fees, click the ‘Fees’ link at the bottom of any PayPal page.
How long does it take to receive money?
- If the sender uses their PayPal balance, a credit or debit card or an instant bank transfer, the money will be credited to your PayPal account balance instantly.
- If the sender pays by eCheque, the money will be credited to your PayPal account after a clearing period of 5-7 working days.
What are the receiving limits?
We must collect additional information about you before you receive more than €2,500 (or currency equivalent) into your PayPal account within a year of receiving your first payment.
To remove this limit, click Summary at the top of the page and then, under 'More about your account', click View your account limits.
