How do I confirm my identity? (CIP)

For regulatory reasons, we need to confirm our customer’s personal information (such as your name, address, and date of birth.) This is what we call our Customer Identification Process (CIP).

For regulatory reasons, we need to confirm our customer's personal details (such as your name, address and date of birth) or business information. We call this our Customer Identification Programme (CIP).

We try to confirm your identity or your business information using national databases. But if we can't, we'll ask you to upload documents in your PayPal account.

How do I upload files to PayPal?

You upload files in your PayPal account. Log in to your PayPal account on a web browser and go to your Confirm your Identity page or click the bell icon near the top of the page.

What can I upload?

Usually we'll need a copy of your government-issued ID, and a proof of address issued within the past 12 months. You can take photos of them with your phone and upload them to us.

How long will it take to review my documents?

We'll try to review your documents within two working days, but in some cases it may take longer.

What if I've already uploaded the documents for my other PayPal account?

We need you to upload documents separately for each PayPal account.

What if I don't want to confirm my identity?

You may lose some PayPal features, like the ability to send or receive money.
