What is Tap to Pay on iPhone with PayPal Zettle?
Tap to Pay on iPhone enables you to accept in-person contactless payments right on your iPhone — from physical debit and credit cards to Apple Pay and other digital wallets — no extra terminals or hardware needed.
What payment methods are accepted?
With Tap to Pay on iPhone, you can accept any contactless payment, including Apple Pay on iPhone and Apple Watch, other digital wallets and payment services, and contactless debit and credit cards.
VISA, MasterCard, Amex, and Discover are currently accepted with Tap to Pay on iPhone.
Which devices are compatible?
Tap to Pay on iPhone requires iPhone XS or later, running iOS 16.4 or above.
How much are the fees?
The Tap to Pay payment fee is the same as a regular card payment through the card reader.
How do I get started?
To get started, you’ll require an internet connection and location services to be enabled on your iPhone.
Tap to Pay on iPhone will automatically be activated within the PayPal Zettle app; however, when you try and process your first Tap to Pay on iPhone transaction, you'll be taken through a brief flow:
- Add your products and check out in the PayPal Zettle app
- Select Tap to Pay
- Review and accept Apple's terms and conditions
- Link your existing or other Apple ID.
Tap to Pay on iPhone will be set up in the background while introducing you to how to use the feature.
You can then complete the payment and use Tap to Pay on your iPhone.
How do I accept contactless payments?
- Open the PayPal Zettle app
- Add your products and check out as normal
- Select Tap to Pay on iPhone
- The customer can then use their preferred contactless payment method to pay right on your iPhone.

Where does the money go when I collect payment?
After accepting a Tap to Pay on iPhone payment, the money will be collected and paid out to your PayPal balance directly.
Can I accept a tip through Tap to Pay on iPhone?
Currently tipping isn't supported through Tap to Pay; however, it's something we're working on.
Is Tap to Pay on iPhone Secure?
Tap to Pay on iPhone uses the built-in features of the iPhone to keep your business and customer data private and secure. When a payment is processed, Apple does not store card numbers on the device or Apple servers, so you can rest assured knowing your business stays yours.
Are Tap to Pay on iPhone transactions included in my tax reporting?

Can I refund a Tap to Pay on iPhone transaction?
- Open the PayPal Zettle app
- Select Receipts from the menu
- Locate the Tap to Pay on iPhone transaction
- Tap Refund.
