Prevent Identity Theft with PayPal Canada
Keeping your information safer.
Identity Theft is when someone steals your personal information and uses it to open accounts and make unauthorized transactions in your name.
It can be very difficult and time-consuming to repair your financial reputation, so prevention is the best protection.
How Identity Theft Happens
How criminals steal your information-and how you can stop them from succeeding.
Phishing and Spoofs
Emails claiming to be from popular companies will direct you to "spoof" or fake websites and request your personal information. Learn more about phishing.
Some criminals will rummage through your garbage, looking for bank statements or credit card numbers. The simplest way to stay safe is to cut up your cards and shred your documents before throwing them away.
Always pay attention to your surroundings when doing financial transactions in public. Carefully shield the keypad when punching in your code at ATMs.

Remember, the most powerful deterrent to identity theft is keeping your password safe. And PayPal's $0 Liability for Eligible Unauthorized Transactions protects you from fraudulent use of your account-so you're covered if you report it right away.
