How do I activate my PayPal Security Key card?
Your password is your first authentication factor when you log in to PayPal. If you want additional security, you can add a PayPal Security Key to your account as a second authentication factor. This provides much stronger account protection than just a password.
Use these steps to activate your PayPal security key card:
- Click the Settings icon next to log out.
- Click Security.
- Click Edit near "Security key".
- You can register a mobile device or remove an existing security key on this page.
Once it’s activated, we’ll send you a single-use security code, called a One Time PIN (OTP), via SMS each time you log in. You’ll enter this code in addition to your password. These two factors provide you with stronger account security. If you don’t have access to SMS messaging, we can also send you your OTP with a phone call. Alternatively, if you do not have access to SMS or telephone, you may log in to your account by answering your standard account security questions.
There’s no fee to use the PayPal Security Key; however, your standard mobile rates apply when you receive a security code by SMS or call. Check with your mobile provider for details.
