What is Canada Post Underpaid Postage or Short Pay?

Canada Post will charge PayPal Shipping customers the differential amount of the label that is underpaid. Be sure to fill out your shipping labels accurately to avoid shipping disruptions resulted from owing underpaid postage. 

Canada Post will charge PayPal Shipping customers the differential amount of the label that is underpaid.  PayPal will settle with Canada Post directly on your behalf however, no further Canada Post shipping labels can be printed on the PayPal Platform until the underpaid postage is paid by you to PayPal.  You will see a notification that underpaid postage is owed to PayPal and will be able to review and pay each underpaid postage transaction directly from your PayPal account.

Common shipping mistakes which can cause underpaid postage include:
  • Incorrect package weight
  • Incorrect package size
  • Incorrect destination address or postal code
  • Incorrect label for package type

No further Canada Post shipping labels can be printed on the PayPal Shipping platform until the underpaid postage is paid.  You will see a notification that underpaid postage is owed to Canada Post, and will be able to review and pay each underpaid postage transaction directly from your PayPal account. 

If you think you were charged underpaid postage incorrectly by Canada Post, contact Canada Post right away. However, you won’t be able to ship on the PayPal Shipping platform with Canada Post until the issue is resolved. Upon resolution, Canada Post will notify PayPal and we’ll clear the underpaid postage from your account.
