Around 2.5 million Australians bought online for the first time in 2020 as they practised social distancing. And 38% started consciously buying local to help Australian businesses recover from the impact of COVID.

Australia is a nation of bargain hunters with 54% admitting they always look for sales when shopping online. With income decreasing through COVID-19 for 37% of Australians, 28% now only shop when items are on sale.

With less time out and about, we’ve seen our first downturn in mCommerce usage since we started tracking it 5 years ago. Instead, 23% are shopping on their laptop or desktop computers more because they’ve been at home.
