A marriage of convenience.

Madi and Sara tell how PayPal Here makes life easier for stressed brides-to-be through their quirky wedding stationery business.

When Sara Saade and Madi Schutte go to work each day they’re fortunate to collaborate with couples preparing for one of the most important and exciting days of their lives*: their wedding day. Both Sara and Madi love the wedding industry and working with brides-to-be so when they started their wedding stationery business Little Paper Pantry they knew they’d created a happy place for themselves. “We’ve been in the wedding industry for six to seven years now, so it goes beyond making invites,” explains Sara. “We’re familiar with the trends and we’re able to use that knowledge with clients to create something really beautiful. We help them to create the first impression of what their wedding day will be like. Brides have so much to organise so we want to make their lives a little easier.” In the early days the pair set up shop in a spare bedroom to keep overheads down, and would visit bridal expos to attract new clients. They’d researched portable merchant facilities several times, though being a small business the idea of taking on the cost and contract commitments for a bank-supplied facility was daunting. They also focused on building up word-of-mouth promotion among families and friends of early customers, supplemented by a beautifully-designed website with payments facilitated by PayPal. When PayPal launched the PayPal Here app, a low cost way to accept card payments through a few taps on their mobile phone, Sara and Madi jumped at the chance to try it, and it soon became a core part of their business. “We think PayPal Here is great because it means customers don’t have to go to the bank, which is just an inconvenience”. As Little Paper Pantry grew, they escaped from a small room in their house to their own shop, to open a central Sydney store. PayPal Here provided an easy option in store payments, and for payments over the phone. “It’s also convenient for overseas clients” says Sara, “it’s an easy way for them to make a payment and we don’t have to wait long for it to clear on our end.” In 2014 the pair discovered that PayPal was introducing a new Chip and PIN card reader, to connect to the PayPal Here app and accept payments even faster. Still with no monthly fees, and only $139 for the card reader Sara and Madi jumped at the chance to use it. “We’ve found that PayPal Here is a lot more cost-effective than other options we explored, plus, the appeal for a bride is that PayPal Here is it’s really quick” says Madi. “It was easy to set up and the really cool thing is that we can take it anywhere – we can take it to expos, we can take it to markets, and we can use it in the shop, it's just everywhere we need it to be.” portable merchant facilities several times, though being a small business the idea of taking on the cost and contract commitments for a bank-supplied facility was daunting.
