Why did I get API error code 10508?

Issue
PayPal returned error code 10508 - This transaction cannot be processed. Please enter a valid credit card expiration date.

Cause
PayPal expects to receive a four-character string MMYYYY for a credit card expiration date. For example, May 2019 should be "052019." December 2020 should be "122020."

Solution
Don't include slashes ("/") in the expiration string.
