What should I do if I get an error when trying to add a card to my PayPal account?

If you've tried to link your credit or debit card to your PayPal account but received an error message, it may be because:

  • Your card is currently linked to another PayPal account. A card can only be linked to one PayPal account at a time.
    What to do:
    Try to link a different card to your PayPal account.
  • You entered an incorrect billing address.
    What to do:
    Check your card statement to ensure both addresses match.
  • You entered the CVV code incorrectly 3 times.
    What to do:
    Call us. We can help you finish linking your card. We may ask you to provide some additional information.
  • Your card provider didn’t authorise the $2.00 AUD temporary charge to your card.
    What to do:
    Call your card provider to find out why the authorisation from PayPal was rejected. After the issue is resolved, try adding your card again.
