How do I enrol in PayPal Giving Fund?

If your charity is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), and is an Item 1 Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR), it’s eligible to enrol in PayPal Giving Fund’s programme.

Here's how to get started:

1. Create a PayPal Business account for your charity:

  • When creating the account, select 'Charitable and Social Service Organisations' in response to the question 'What type of products or services do you sell?'

2. Verify your charity's PayPal Business account. In most cases, PayPal will need the following:

  • Your name, date of birth and address. You’ll also need to provide documents to verify these details.
  • Information about your charity, such as legal entity documents and information about related parties.
  • The names, dates of birth and addresses of the Beneficial Owners of your charity.*
  • If your charity operates a separate Item 1 DGR, authority or institution, PayPal Giving Fund will email and ask you to confirm that your PayPal account is used for your DGR purposes before enrolling your charity into the PayPal Giving Fund programme.

3. Your charity will now be automatically enrolled**

  • You'll receive an email from us confirming that your charity is enrolled.
  • We'll use your verified PayPal Business account to pay you the money we receive to benefit your charity. We generally distribute the money once a month or within 15-45 days from the date of the donation by depositing a single payment into your charity's PayPal account at the end of the month.
  • You can access your charity  dashboard and update your charity profile page by logging in using your PayPal account details.
*If your charity doesn’t have Beneficial Owner(s) (i.e., individual(s) who own or control 25% or more of your organisation's relevant assets) you can provide the details for a Senior Management Official, who has voting rights or is in position to exercise significant authority (>25%) over the finances and operations of the charity. PayPal understands that this is the position for many charities, in which case the details of a board member or senior member of staff could be provided instead. For Senior Management Official, you can submit the approximate percentage of control over the charity’s finances and operations.

*If your charity operates a separate DGR Fund, PayPal Giving Fund will email your charity and ask you to confirm that the PayPal account is used for your DGR purposes before enrolment.

Here’s how to update your business information:

  1. Go to your Profile and settings.
  2. In the Business information section, click Update.
  3. Click Edit next to "Your business information".
  4. Enter/Update the required information. (If you're not a business owner, choose "individual" as your business type).
  5. Click Save.

Your charity doesn’t need to enroll to receive grants from PayPal Giving Fund, however, by enrolling it will:

  • Receive grants in your PayPal account in a single monthly payment.
  • Track all donations made to your charity through the charity dashboard.
  • View donor details (where the donor has agreed to share their details with you) to help build your database.
  • Be eligible to participate in additional PayPal Giving Fund programs.
  • Have the ability to update your charity profile page which appears on our partners' platforms such as Facebook and PayPal.
