Why can't I add a card to my PayPal account?

If you see an error message when trying to link a card to your PayPal account, here may be the reason:

One or more details you've entered for your card, such as the billing address, is incorrect.

What to do: Check that your details match those on your card statement. If your information appears correct, call your card provider to check for any difference at their side. A change made to your details can sometimes take time to be updated.

You can only link a card to 1 PayPal account at a time.

What to do: If you've already linked a card, remove it from your account, and then link the new one.

Your card provider didn't accept our attempted $1 authorisation (or the equivalent amount in your local currency) when you tried to add your card.

What to do: Call your card provider to ask why they rejected the PayPal authorisation. After they resolve the issue, try adding your card again.

You linked your card to your PayPal account, but entered the card security code (CVV) incorrectly 3 times.

What to do: Call us to  help you finish linking your card. We may ask you to provide some more information.
