How do I troubleshoot Classic ASP SDK error messages?

When troubleshooting Classic ASP scripts, it's often helpful to configure Internet Explorer (IE) to not show friendly HTTP errors so you can see where the error is in your script. Showing friendly HTTP errors means that if the script encounters a problem, you'll see a generic HTTP 500 error message.

Here's how to configure IE to show more detailed error messages that can save a lot of debugging time:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and select Tools > Internet Options.
  2. On the Internet Options page, click the Advanced tab.
  3. Uncheck the Show friendly HTTP error messages box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Retest your script. If there is a syntax error, missing include, and so on, you should see an error message on the screen indicating a missing file or the approximate line number where the syntax error occurred.
