How do I get my money back for an item bought using PayPal?

We're sorry to hear things didn't go as planned, but we can help you cancel a payment, file a dispute, or ask for a refund to get your money back. First, let's figure out the best option for you to take.

Is the payment still pending?
If you send a payment and it remains ‘Pending,’ you can click the Cancel option next to the payment on the Activity page. If the payment remains unclaimed for more than 30 days, it will automatically refund.

Do you need to file a dispute?
If you purchased something and haven't received it, it's not as described, or the payment is unauthorized, you can file a case in our Resolution Center to start the process of getting your money back.

Would you like a refund?
If you changed your mind on a purchase and want your money back, you’ll need to contact the seller and ask them to cancel your purchase. If the payment is completed, please ask about their return policy, or request a refund. If a payment was funded by your bank account and is refunded within 3 hours of the transaction, your bank will not be charged.

Contacting your seller
To find the seller's contact information:

  1. Go to Activity.
  2. Click the transaction in your list of recent transactions.
On the "Transaction Details" page, you’ll see the seller’s name, email, and, if available, the seller’s customer service phone number.

Was this an automatic payment?
Automatic payments don’t pull from the preferred payment method for making purchases online. For each individual automatic payment, you'll have to select which payment method you want to use. So, if the incorrect payment method is charged during an automatic payment purchase, please contact the seller and request a refund. You can also change the payment method on your automatic payment.
